4D / PROGRAMME INTEGRATION / SINGAPORE
4D Construction Sequencing & Programme Integration
Connect model elements with the agreed construction programme to communicate sequence, work zones and dependencies. Keep the activity mapping and planning assumptions visible alongside the simulation.

Help the project team review how the proposed sequence is represented spatially, and where model detail or activity granularity limits the interpretation. The simulation supports planning discussions rather than replacing the project programme.
KEY OUTPUTS
- 4D model or sequencing dataset
- Staged views or sequence presentation
- Mapping and assumptions register
- Update comparison
Project context
Help the project team review how the proposed sequence is represented spatially, and where model detail or activity granularity limits the interpretation. The simulation supports planning discussions rather than replacing the project programme.
Inputs & requirements
- Current programme, WBS, activity identifiers, calendars and relevant baseline or update date.
- Model revision, location breakdown and element grouping suited to the required sequence.
- Temporary works, access, logistics and progress-status assumptions supplied or accepted by the responsible team.
Share a non-confidential requirements summary first. Restricted project information should only be exchanged through an agreed secure route.
Technical method
- Agree the simulation purpose, time interval, zones and level of activity detail.
- Map activities to model groups and record excluded, unmatched or multiply assigned elements.
- Review staged views with the planning and construction teams, including agreed temporary conditions.
- Update the mapping against revised models and programmes; retain the change and assumptions record.
Deliverables
| Output | Purpose |
|---|---|
| 4D model or sequencing dataset | Traceable activity-to-model mapping in the agreed tool and format. |
| Staged views or sequence presentation | Communication of selected phases, zones and planning scenarios. |
| Mapping and assumptions register | Unmatched elements, temporary conditions and modelling limitations. |
| Update comparison | Changes in the represented sequence relative to the agreed reference. |
Review criteria
- Programme and model versions are compatible and correctly identified.
- Mapped activity dates, zones and construction states represent the intended sequence.
- Unmodelled temporary works and unsupported progress assumptions remain explicit.
Responsibilities
The project planner and construction team retain responsibility for programme acceptance, methods and safety planning. A 4D visualisation is not a guarantee of critical-path optimisation, resource sufficiency or an approved construction method.
Common questions
Is a 3D walkthrough a 4D programme?
No. A 4D workflow links model content to time-based activities. Camera movement alone does not establish programme integration.
Can it support look-ahead reviews?
Yes, where programme granularity and model grouping suit the selected work areas. Preconditions and constraints still need the project team’s review.
